the spec is 19 ft. lbs.DOES ANYONE KNOW THE OIL DRAIN PLUG TORQUE SPECS ON A 1998 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER?
The torque spec is 30lbs on my car. I'm sure the one on your mountaineer is very similar to that. I mean an oil drain bolt is an oil drain bolt and there not much different at all going from car to car. If you want to be safe torque it to 40lbs but really its overkill to pull out a torque wrench for the oil drain bolt. I just make it good and tight with a good yank from my arm and have never had a problem.
Don't worry about spec.

Snug it up with the wrench, then give it a 1/8 turn and it will be fine. It should have a gasket on it to prevent any leaking.
if you cannot find the specs tighten it hand tight and run the car and look underneath and see if any oil leaks. And if there is a leak turn 1/4 of a turn to tighten again. That should work.
