Oil drain plug?

I change the oil on my girlfriend 98 Sunfire, and whenever i go to change it agian, the plug ends up being a heck of a lot tighter then when i put it on, what could this be? Could taking off the oil filter help release some pressure?Oil drain plug?
i had the same problem with one of my cars...even tho i dont know exactly what it is...yes take of the oil filter for a few minutes and put it back onOil drain plug?
make sure you're using a torque wrench... you might just be tightening it too much Report Abuse

heat draws it tighter. did you get it out?if your still working on it, ,try using vise grips or a small pipe wrench.next time just snug it enough so it wont work out, the heat will draw it tighter. taking the filter off wont make it any looser.
no it is most likely viberation. it is better to be tighter than fall out
Nuts and bolts can become less and more tightly fastenend over time. The short answer is heat-cycling, vibration, and slight corrosion are the causes for one or the other scenario. Whether a nut or bolt becomes more or less stuck is a function of the amounts of each of the short answer items. The variables are where the nut or bolt is located (close to the exhaust which is very hot, for example) and what external environmental factors exist (like you have salt on the roads which corrodes fasteners).

In the case of the drain plug, the filler cap and/or oil filter won't help.

I would suggest you use a different technique. Tap the end of your ratchet or wrench with a hammer until the bolt breaks loose.

Hope that helps! -scott
