when refilling the oil tank.....first pour in a quart, then pull the drain hose off the plug again and let a couple ounces of oil drain out then put the hose back on the plug and tighten the clamp. This will remove any excess air from the oil tank/line and prevent air from entering the feed line to the pump and causing cavitation. Fill the tank to about a half inch below the filler hole, run the bike until it reaches operating temp and then stand the bike upright and recheck the oil level, fill as needed.Where is oil drain plug on a 86 harley sportster?
On a 1986-2003 there is a drain hose. Look under the motor and there is a rubber hose with a worm clamp on it, it attaches to a bung on the frame. Loosen the clamp and remove the hose from the bung.
