well if you know you have the oil level where its at it proper level then keep cleaning the plugs it will stop when the all oil burns off. it well run better then. make the wires are all in tit.

Oil overfill. Drained oil by removing the plug...?

What can be causing this? I'm on as level ground as I can. My truck hasn't moved since yesterday morning so i'm sure there's still oil in the sump.

Due to the dipstick tube the oil won't read above 1-2 inches above full.
Drain the oil until it is on the full mark.

If it starts getting fuller on it's own, without you adding any, you have dilution of the oil, and this means trouble.

I called Mazda because the car is only 7 months old. They said since Jiffy lube changed the oil last they were responsible. I contacted Jiffy lube and they told me they did not feel responsible due to the fact that this usually happens in the first 500 miles. I had 4000 miles on my car but it was only 2 months after the oil change. We are barely making ends meet now and we have a baby... how am I going to afford a lawyer? The reason I bought a new car was so I didn't have to worry about any of this. Please help!! only thing to do is take jiffy lube to court lawyers usually take a percentage of the winnings. thats why you go to a dealership to get oil changed and not jiffy lube. you want 18 yr old kids with no experience working on your new car, or factory trained techs that are trained specifically for your vehcile, and if that happened they would just warranty engine and have mazda pay for it

And how high do you turn up your sound that you are distracted and don't hear the engine making unusual noise, the ';check engine'; light lit or other dashboard indications of impending doom.
You the driver are responsible for your oil level. If you drive a car, You the driver are responsible to ensure that water is in the radiator, gas is in the tank, oil is in the engine, trans fluid is in the transmission, windshield washer fluid is in the appropriate place, as well as the brake fluid and power steering fluid and all that. There isn't a single one of those fluids that is magically someone elses problem, they are all your responsiblity as the driver to check as often as necessary to ensure you have a safe driveable vehicle.
Anyway, try suing the gas station the next time you run out of gas. Actually please don't, just take responsibility for what is your problem.
How much damage to the engine do you have really? If you ignored the funny noises and drove it until it seized and cracked the block or something? What a good driver should do is stop and inspect the engine if it is making funny noises, and I'm pretty sure an engine without oil is making some recognizable indication before it full on is blown. But whatever that is, it is likely to be cheaper to buy a new motor than to hire a lawyer. A new motor is only a few thousand eh?

I'd guess that it wasn't a drain plug at all,,,
but rather a Plug for the Cam Chain tensioner which LOOKS a lot like a Drain Plug.

I would advise running the engine for a minute or two before draining the oil as it warms it up and will drain easier.

Yes it is, it's in what looks like a tin bowl, don't take the plug out until you've got a new copper washer for the plug and what ever you do don't over tighten it.

My own personal experience?
Years ago, another yard worker and I got bored while working in a salvage yard after school and decided to see for ourselves how long an engine would run without any oil. We physically punched a large hole in the oil pan, hammered the filter clean off the block and cut the fan belts off the old Mercury and jumped started the engine. It run along fine for a minute or so (despite the lifters clattering away - very loudly) - we then bumped up the engine rpm's by jamming a piece of molding between the seat and the throttle - it ran for almost four minutes before it made several ungodly noises and literally screeched to an abrupt stop - crackling like pop corn and smoking like a mosquito machine for several minutes afterwards.
It seemed like that engine hammered away for hours before it bit the dust - but a little under 4 minutes, under the worst possible conditions, was the ';official'; tally.
No one would have driven this engine for more than 30 seconds or so with the extremely loud clattering noises that the lifters were making from the initial start up.
I fully understand your concern with your car - it's a new vehicle and now you are fully justified in your concern about the engine.
A similar occurrence happened at a dealership located close by, and the dealer towed the vehicle in (almost two miles away) and replaced the badly leaking filter, refilled the engine and there didn't seem to be any concern.
The owner, however, was adamant that he should have a new engine - after a short meeting with the owner, the dealer gave the customer a written warranty for 100,000 miles on the engine as assurance and several years later the same owner traded the vehicle in at the same dealership - he never experienced any engine concerns.
Got the paperwork from when the dealer touched it? That's going to be real important. Also, I hope you were able to stop right away, before the engine was ruined! Anyway, first dealer, then factory rep., then the car company, then court and the media, in that order. Good Luck!

I usually do it myself,but I took my truck to the dealer for $35.00 oil change.Next morning there's a giant oil spill under my truck and the drain plug is so loose it spun off with one turn.It ruined my driveway and I now I have no way to work unless I walk 5 miles to the auto parts store and get 5 quarts of oil...walk back and replenish the oil so I can drive to work.What do you think the dealer will do to make up for shoddy service?Had oil changed by dealer,they left drain plug loose and I lost all oil?

if you tell the Dealer that you accidentally caused the drain plug too come completely, out and ruin the drive and whatever else,, he's going too seize the opportunity too say that: How do we know that you weren't trying too sabotage our work, too try and get us to have to buy you a new engine?
Whenever anyone of you are in this predicament you do not touch the vehicle! You get a camera(still or video and you record any and all
possibilities.
I don't know what they will do, but when I worked in a garage the owner would have had me out there filling the oil and cleaning the driveway
Honstley, I think your gonna be hard pressed to get anything out of them. However, if you do want them to be lyiable for the dammage, don't touch the car. Leave it where it sits. If you drive it anymore, they'll just say that you caused harm to the motor without calling them first and you won't get a dime. Also, don't try to take it to another shop. If you add more oil to it and let another shop check it out, they'll blame you for not bringing it to them first. if you tell the Dealer that you accidentally caused the drain plug too come completely, out and ruin the drive and whatever else,, he's going too seize the opportunity too say that: How do we know that you weren't trying too sabotage our work, too try and get us to have to buy you a new engine?
Whenever anyone of you are in this predicament you do not touch the vehicle! You get a camera(still or video and you record any and all
possibilities.
I don't know what they will do, but when I worked in a garage the owner would have had me out there filling the oil and cleaning the driveway
Honstley, I think your gonna be hard pressed to get anything out of them. However, if you do want them to be lyiable for the dammage, don't touch the car. Leave it where it sits. If you drive it anymore, they'll just say that you caused harm to the motor without calling them first and you won't get a dime. Also, don't try to take it to another shop. If you add more oil to it and let another shop check it out, they'll blame you for not bringing it to them first. I would give them a call right when they open and demand that someone come down and check out the problem. Good Luck

It doesn't. The factory drain plug has a rubber o-ring attached that seals, when the drain plug is tightened to the proper torque. Installing another gasket over it may cause an oil leak. I rounded the drain plug/bolt while trying to change my own oil (don't laugh...) If I took it to a place that does oil changes, would they have drain plugs in stock to replace it, or should I have the part in hand to give to them? I would think you should go to the nearest PepBoys, AutoLand, or NAPA Parts place and buy your own plug (and the correct size wrench with which to remove and reinstall it next time). Then you could bring the vehicle to Jiffy Lube or whatever service center with which you're comfortable. Hand them the plug and pay their labor rate.

go to napaoe autozone,oreillys, etc and buy one before you get oil changed then when the oil is changed they usaully do it for free. just tell them their competitor said it needed to be changed on next oil change. because unless its a focus, neon, cobalt etc they usually dont stock drain plugs. they usually only have an universal plug or one of those that twist in and have a compression type feature which I think is hoakie.
I did the same thing a few years ago went to the junk yard and took one of a wreck NO CHARGE

well, you don't have to change the fluid. I work in a transmission shop and I rebuild differentials and transmissions. honestly you can pretty much have a car go it's lifetime without changing the differential fluid. trust me. but if you really want to do it. you're car is a front wheel drive so you have to pop the hood and find the transmission, on the rigtht side of the engine and there should be a hex or square plug, you can use a crecent wrench

How much oil does a 1981 chevy caprice 4.4L v8 267CI take, and where is the drain plug located?
5 quarts of oil should do it maybe 5.5 and the drain plug should be under the front of the car to the right of the crankshaft.
How do i change the oil on my 1985 honda rebel? Where are the drain plug, screen and fill?
-The oil drain bolt is on the L ';side'; of the motor near the front %26amp; bottem. (you need a 17mm wrench).
-It doesn't have a conventional oil filter. It's a centrifical filter and oil screen that just have to be cleaned. No need to clean it at every oil change. Clean it when you have to do motor work like change the clutch. They're in the R crankcase.
-The oil fill cap/dip stick is on the R crankcase cover.
-Remove the drain bolt and drain the oil.
-Re-install the bolt. Change the crush washer if needed.
-Hold the bike upright (as if you were sitting on it). Add oil to the top line of the dip stick. Use motorcycle oil. Car oil can't handle the deposits left behind by the clutch friction plates. If you use car oil you'll just have to change it twice as often.
-Re-install the cap and start the bike. Let it run for a couple of minutes (to let the oil circulate through the motor).
-Turn off the bike and let it cool down for a few minutes (to let the oil from the top of the motor drain down to the crankcase).

Later I heard that I may have been able to get Jiffy Lube to pay for it, they may even have insurance that covers it, but it has to be done fairly soon after the incident. That might be one of the ones that doesn't have one. They use a suction hose and suck it right out the dip stick pipe.

I'd demand they fix it or pay to have it fixed and if they refuse tell the manager he will be hearing from your lawyer. That might scare
them into fixing it. The manager provided an admission on guilt by saying the technician has made alot of mistakes. If I were you I'd talk to the store manager about the situation. There is a tool you can get at most auto parts stores. Irwin is one of the brands. It has small ';fins'; on the inside and you use a hammer to tap on and the ';fins'; gouge into the metal of the head so you can use a ratchet to get it out.Drain Plug Bolt in Car Oil Pan Stuck!?
Cory, If you live near a Sears store they have several special sockets both metric and SAE sizes called Damaged Nut and Bolt Sockets. Inside the socket there are left hand spiral flutes that bite and tighten on the stuck bolt as you turn the socket counter-clockwise. I guaranty one of these sockets will do the job for you. It would help if you knew the head size of the Pan bolt before it was damaged. Most newer stuff is all metric. Somewhere around 14-15-16 mm in size.
This was a known problem for the older grand-ams. Our method was to heat the plug up and it came right out. Of course replace the plug.Use common since heating around that area and dont overheat--Maybe try the other methods first.

If you can't remove the oil pan then take a strong magnet and attach it to the pan to hold the lose piece in one spot.. it well also help hold some of the metal shavings that you get with motor ware.

Inside the socket there are left hand spiral flutes that bite and tighten on the stuck bolt as you turn the socket counter-clockwise. I guaranty one of these sockets will do the job for you. It would help if you knew the head size of the Pan bolt before it was damaged. Most newer stuff is all metric. Somewhere around 14-15-16 mm in size.
This was a known problem for the older grand-ams. Our method was to heat the plug up and it came right out. Of course replace the plug.Use common since heating around that area and dont overheat--Maybe try the other methods first.
make sure your turning it left..not meant to insult you but it happens..but if you are which you probably are..your probably gonna have to drill it out if the head is rounded off
are you turning it the right way? take some vise grips or a pair or small pipe wrench.

There is a screen at the bottom of the oil pump. I would still remove the oil pan if that's something you are able to do. It's never a good thing to have foreign material in your oil pan.

If you can't remove the oil pan then take a strong magnet and attach it to the pan to hold the lose piece in one spot.. it well also help hold some of the metal shavings that you get with motor ware.

This is my first time changing my oil, so I need some help. I looked under the truck and I think I found the pan, but I'm not sure if I'm right. How far back is it from the engine? Is the drain plug on the front of the pan (towards the engine), on the back (towards the back of the car), or on either side of the pan (driver's or passenger's side)? The owner's guide does not explain the oil changing process very well and does not point out where the pan or drain plug is. Any detail or additional oil changing advice would help. Your oil pan is right under the engine and the drain plug is right there. do not over tighten the drain plug and its suggested that you replace the drain plug gasket ( just suggested ). The drain plug is going to be on the lowest point of the oil pan. I just changed the oil on my new Subaru. I then noticed that the little metal gasket that goes on before the plug was off and I did not put it back on. The drain bolt was tightened very well though. Not put back on right! SOMEONE didnt clean up around the pplug area, so you got all that gunk and crap settling at the bottom by the drain, and just interfered with the tight fit...

the oil filter housing is accually an oil cooler. and coolant runs through it to cool the oil. its posible that the seal is leaking and thats why you see the oil or they just did a messy job of changing your filter. and didnt clean it up afterwards. hope this helps you out some, good luck.

I got a 1996 Toyota camry. I went to another place for an oil change and they found oil pan threads is pulled and drain plug threads is stripped. They suggested me to bring my car to a repair shop as soon as possible and also they said whoever did the oil change last time is the one responible for those damaged. However, I already moved to another town and it seems little impossible to ask for warranty because I can't bring it to the last shop to fix it. When u push the lever it spreads the rubber out to fit more snugly. I can remember what those plugs are called though. I used that kit and it worked.

No not at all. If you have a 1/2, 9/16 and 5/8, standard size box end wrenches along with 14mm, 15,mm and 16mm you'll have most of them covered.

Hi there, There is a drain plug near the bottom of the gearbox and the drain plug will sit horizontally and the filler/level plug is behind the black plastic cover at the front of the gearbox and the correct grade of oil is 75w90 semi synthetic capacity 2.3 ltrs.

What should I do about Jiffy Lube purposely tightening my drain plug and oil filter too tight?
My husband took his truck to Jiffy Lube a couple months back for a quick oil change- I didn't have time to do it myself.
Today I made an attempt to change the oil as it was a little overdue. The filter on his truck is in a very odd spot where even a filter wrench is impossible to use (unless you remove shrouds and other things.) I've never had problems changing his oil before simply because I line the filter with oil and hand-tighten it... like you're supposed to.
Luckily, I made friends with an employee at a local shop. Jiffy Lube cranked the drain plug so tight, stripping the threads was almost inevitable. They crushed the filter getting IT off. Everything turned out to be okay though.
I read online that places like Jiffy Lube (not all) will do this on purpose so that you'll have to go back because it's nearly impossible to do the oil change yourself.
Is there anything I can do besides write bad reviews online? My oil change is already done so there's no proving it was ever as bad as it really was.

Tightening the plug enough to strip the threads is wrong, if they stripped the threads they should pay to repair it.
Crushing the old filter to remove it is not unusual, an old mechanics trick to remove a stubborn filter is to drive a screwdriver through it and twist it off. It's being thrown away anyway so it doesn't matter if the old filter is damaged.
It isn't common to overtighten a filter since too much torque will crush the filter .
You are not supposed to only hand tighten a filter, you are supposed to hand tighten it and then tighten it about a quarter turn with a filter wrench.
If you only hand tighten it, there is a risk that it will come loose while driving. At best you get a big leak and a dirty engine, at worst you get an engine fire.

If a person tightened it, it can be untightened. You may not be strong enough to do it yourself, but it physically can be done. So there's really no way to ';purposely'; do this to make you come back. The most they can do it use a hydraulic ratchet to tighten it (which is more about doing the job quickly than it is about making you come back), but that just means you could loosen it using one too.
Don't go to places like that anymore. They've done way too much damage to my vehicles over the years. The people who work there are the ones McDonald's rejected. I spend the extra dollars to have a real mechanic change my oil when I don't have the time to do it myself. But finding a good and honest mechanic these days can be difficult.
i m sure they used an air gun to tighten it which is really hard for a person to loosen it by him self.
i say just bring a strong pipe and then put it at the end of the oil changing tool (at the hand of the tool) and then try to loosen it!

You might try carefully turning it with a pipe wrench. These wrenches are designed to turn round items. Before you try anything , you probably want to purchase a new plug, to replace the damaged one, afterward. Also make sure you use the correct wrench size when installing the new one, so it doesn't become stripped also.
If you can get it out, and the plug threads are damaged, you should be okay. Take it to a parts store and get a new one. Some of the bigger stores carry replacements. If the treads of the pan are stripped, the you're toast. You will need to either have new threads cut in the pan, if you can find a tap the size to do it, or you will have to replace the pan.

If you go to a good auto parts store they can fix you up with a self tapping oversized drain plug to replace the stripped out plug. You will eventually have to remove the old plug to change your oil and that is when to put the new one in.
are you saying the head on the drain plug is stripped or the threads themself, dont pull it out unless you have a replacement plug it might not go back in
try using vise grips or a small pipe wrench. once you get it out, get a self tapping bolt for it. it will make its own threads.
if you dont want to tap and put a larger plug..use a rubber repair plug...get it at any pts store...advancemzone,oreilly.....i use one on my tractor,,,still working after 10 years

Before you try anything , you probably want to purchase a new plug, to replace the damaged one, afterward. Also make sure you use the correct wrench size when installing the new one, so it doesn't become stripped also.
If you can get it out, and the plug threads are damaged, you should be okay. Take it to a parts store and get a new one. Some of the bigger stores carry replacements. If the treads of the pan are stripped, the you're toast. You will need to either have new threads cut in the pan, if you can find a tap the size to do it, or you will have to replace the pan.

If you go to a good auto parts store they can fix you up with a self tapping oversized drain plug to replace the stripped out plug. You will eventually have to remove the old plug to change your oil and that is when to put the new one in.
are you saying the head on the drain plug is stripped or the threads themself, dont pull it out unless you have a replacement plug it might not go back in
try using vise grips or a small pipe wrench. once you get it out, get a self tapping bolt for it. it will make its own threads.
if you dont want to tap and put a larger plug..use a rubber repair plug...get it at any pts store...advancemzone,oreilly.....i use one on my tractor,,,still working after 10 years
Why would you want to put it back in? A new one costs about $2.00 and you can get it back out again.

the first response is correct. Remove screw at bottom and then remove screw at top of outdrive and resevoir cap. Go to your marine supply dealer and you will need 2qts of merc hi performance lower unit oil and also purchase the pump for it as it has fitting to screw into lower screw hole that makes it less messy. Always fill from bottom screw hole to top so that as it fills it purges the air up and out.Once it starts to come out top hole put top screw in then remove pump and put bottom screw in . Then get in boat and top off oil in resevoir . a silver screw in the bottom of the outdrive. put the drive unit as ';straight'; down as you can. on the engine is a small plastic bottle with green oil in it. remove the screw, then take the top off the reservoir(bottle). it takes a while, be patient. to fill, put the oil in the bottom 'til you reach the full mark on the reservoir.

If he had put the drain plug in, even hand tightened it, it wouldn't have emptied out that fast. Maybe he didn't replace all of the oil. I have always changed my own oil,(until I just got a new Explorer, and I haven't done it yet) I pay more attention to my car, and my husbands truck than he does. I'm right there beside him when it needs work done, and I know as much as he does about most cars. So we're not all Dummy's that ';blow engines.'; I have beautiful hands and manicured nails also, so I'm no grease monkey.

You have to remove the belly pan to access the drain plug. It will be obvious once the pan is off.
The oil filter is accessed from the engine bay under the hood. It's under a large plastic cover. You may need a special tool.

I tried to change the oil on my 2004 VW Golf. The oil drain plug is not the usual type. It appears to require some type of allen or hex socket. Does anyone know the what exact tool that is needed. If it has 6 flat sides it is an allen head. If it is ';star shaped'; it is a Torx. VW often uses a 17mm allen head for engine and transmission plugs.

But because of that I had to drain the oil I just bought, and I was wondering if there were any risks to re-using that oil. put in new clean oil, period, next invest in a good tap and die kit, or if you say youve tapped it too much then look into a helicoil kit, or a repair a thread, its called they sell them everywhere, its a metal stainless steel insert that has threads on the insides the exact same as your original bolt, so i can work again, its cheaper than a new pan

What you can do is, weld the old plug just so it dont leak.Then get a tap and die set and make a new whole for any size plug.Very easy to do.Done it many times.My dad has been a mechanic for 30 yrs. For a temp solution, find a station that has a dipstick suction setup. They can suction the oil out through the dipstick hole. They used to offer quick oil changes this way, while you gassed up.
If you try to drill a new drain plug opening you'll have nothing but problems. The oil pan is reinforced (thicker) where the current drain plug is located. If you drill a new hole, the pan will not be thick enough to hold a new self tapping plug and prevent a continuous leak.
To remove the old plug, try to force the tip of two small screw drivers under the head of the plug (180 degrees apart) as someone turns it to un-tighten it. Keep wegeing something between the pan and the plug until the threads start to grip.
If all else fails, drill out the old plug and replace it with a two or three oversize plug. Make sure you get the metal chips out, a magnet will help. They make over-sized plugs that are self tapping for just the problem you have. Also use a gasket around the new oversized plug and DON'T overtighten it. One more thing, they sell plugs with a magnet protruding into the oil, try to use one of these if they come in oversized plugs.

I myself would not pull a jackleg fix to save a few bucks and have it screw me over later.... just replace the pan and feel safer about it.
i think that you would be taking a chance welding the old drain plug before you drain the old oil out. But it sounds like it may be worth a try to drill a hole in the pan to drain it 1st. then tac weld the old drain plug. Retap your new drain hole and go from there. Hey if it doesnt leak you fixed it. But if it does leak, then the new pan is the way to go. But at least you tried 1st
Well it sounds like a new oil pan. You need to actually pull the bolt at the same time turn it out and it may come. The place the old drain plug is is the lowest point in the pan and the oil must drain from that hole or you will not get it all out and leave crud in it every time you change the oil. So unless you get it out and re-thread the old bolt its not going to work. More than likely the last people to do the last oil change they were the ones who overtightened the plug for you. I would suggest letting them know. Maybe they will be honest and see what they can do.
i wouldn't even think about it, this car has an aluminum oil pan what u should do is drill the old drain plug out and then use a tap and dye set to fix the threads and put a new plug
Take it to the dealer for an Oil Change, see what they tell you, they just might get it out. The Boys at Jiffy Lube change Oil, not all of them may be mechanically inclined to get a stuck bolt out.
Whoever changed your oil last cranked that thing on there and they either did it on purpose, or it was that guys first oil change.
Also has some one attempted to remove it with an impact socket?? If I can remove rusted bolts from a 40 year old car with one I recommend giving it a try or have it done at the dealer, they may not charge you anything, and if they break the bolt they will have one in-stock to replace it.
I have a feeling your regular oil change places do not stock oil pan plugs, and then they would have to go ';get'; one for you if they broke it, and that will cost you alot more than a new hole or a new pan.

What you can do is, weld the old plug just so it dont leak.Then get a tap and die set and make a new whole for any size plug.Very easy to do.Done it many times.My dad has been a mechanic for 30 yrs. A tap and die set isnt that expensive, and for that yea car its probbably easyer and cheaper than a new oil pan. you can get set that will do a good job for 15 bucks. For a temp solution, find a station that has a dipstick suction setup. They can suction the oil out through the dipstick hole. They used to offer quick oil changes this way, while you gassed up.
If you try to drill a new drain plug opening you'll have nothing but problems. The oil pan is reinforced (thicker) where the current drain plug is located. If you drill a new hole, the pan will not be thick enough to hold a new self tapping plug and prevent a continuous leak.
To remove the old plug, try to force the tip of two small screw drivers under the head of the plug (180 degrees apart) as someone turns it to un-tighten it. Keep wegeing something between the pan and the plug until the threads start to grip.
If all else fails, drill out the old plug and replace it with a two or three oversize plug. Make sure you get the metal chips out, a magnet will help. They make over-sized plugs that are self tapping for just the problem you have. Also use a gasket around the new oversized plug and DON'T overtighten it. One more thing, they sell plugs with a magnet protruding into the oil, try to use one of these if they come in oversized plugs.

I myself would not pull a jackleg fix to save a few bucks and have it screw me over later.... just replace the pan and feel safer about it.
i think that you would be taking a chance welding the old drain plug before you drain the old oil out. But it sounds like it may be worth a try to drill a hole in the pan to drain it 1st. then tac weld the old drain plug. Retap your new drain hole and go from there. Hey if it doesnt leak you fixed it. But if it does leak, then the new pan is the way to go. But at least you tried 1st
Well it sounds like a new oil pan. You need to actually pull the bolt at the same time turn it out and it may come. The place the old drain plug is is the lowest point in the pan and the oil must drain from that hole or you will not get it all out and leave crud in it every time you change the oil. So unless you get it out and re-thread the old bolt its not going to work. More than likely the last people to do the last oil change they were the ones who overtightened the plug for you. I would suggest letting them know. Maybe they will be honest and see what they can do.
i wouldn't even think about it, this car has an aluminum oil pan what u should do is drill the old drain plug out and then use a tap and dye set to fix the threads and put a new plug
Take it to the dealer for an Oil Change, see what they tell you, they just might get it out. The Boys at Jiffy Lube change Oil, not all of them may be mechanically inclined to get a stuck bolt out.
Whoever changed your oil last cranked that thing on there and they either did it on purpose, or it was that guys first oil change.
Also has some one attempted to remove it with an impact socket?? If I can remove rusted bolts from a 40 year old car with one I recommend giving it a try or have it done at the dealer, they may not charge you anything, and if they break the bolt they will have one in-stock to replace it.

No,.. there is only one engine oil drain plug. Its on the frame on the lower right in front of the swingarm on the transmission trap door side. Its a tube that drains the oil tank. what little is actually in the crankcase is very minimal.
The other drain plug the other poster described is the PRIMARY case drain. The primary should be changed at the same time as the oil, and unless you are using something special it takes the same oil the motor takes. The primary is refilled at the small oval inspection cover w/ 4bolts. Takes 1 quart, and its assumed that during this service the primary chain is adjusted (tightened) while you have this cover off....or if you are adjusting the clutch simply pour it in the derby cover hole.Where is the drain plug/ tube on a 2003 Harley Davidson softail standard for changing oil?

Where is the oil filter and drain plug on my honda trx 500 foreman rubicon?
I never used a rubicon before, but if they are anything like the 450 foreman fm's, the drain plug is around the bottom left front of the engine, if you tilt the atv you should see a 17 mm bolt, thats the drain bolt. The oil filter is on the right side of the engine right above the end of the brake lever. You should see a circular cover with 3, 8 mm size bolts, that's where the filter is, at least that's where they are on my 450 foreman. Hope this helps :)

You either have too little oil in the bike or you have not removed the proper drain plug all though this seems unlikely.

Perhaps something is in the way of the oil flow. Put your finger or pencil in the hole and see if that helps.

There's probably a factory spec but I have always just gone snug with a wrench. It won't leak and it's easier to remove next time. They have a tendency to lock in over time so snug gives a consistant start point for me. IMHO...

Is a brass washer more suitable than steel for use as an oil pan drain plug washer?
Brass is a softer metal and is more suitable because it will ';mold'; and fit the space between the drain bolt and the oil pan better than a steel washer. If you must use something other than brass, use stainless steel as it will not rust as rapidly as plain steel, a tertiary choice would be galvanized steel. In any event if you need to use something other than brass, it should be replace asap with brass.

Best to take out in parking lot, and see if you can loosen them with lug wrench, -- if not make them loosen them and put on with lugwrench, -- so you can get them off with lugwrench! because they are concerned about quantity and not quality. i worked in the lube industry for 14 years and i know some of the ins and outs of that business. at the same time i also know many of the toque specifications for the drain plugs. if it took two people to pull that little plug out, i see one of two things being there, and one is just comical.
1) the two guys were little weaklings that could not fight there own shadow and win
2) drain plug is over torqued to the point of damaging the oil pan.
as i said the second is a more than likely possibility. do you remember where the last oil change was done. you might want to go back and have a talk with the service writter. as i said before you may have oil pan damage. i can not be sure and it does not sound like it yet, but somethings take time.

Oh yeah.. That happened to me when I worked at a gas station. I got distracted because we were busy so I quit changing oil and helped pump gas, went back to the car and forgot to tighten the oil plug. The next day the owner wasn't happy about it. so, yeah it can and did happen.

It is possible the hole is slightly worn, and needs a slightly oversized self-tapping replacement plug. It is also possible that the gasket needs replacing.
The plug not being properly torqued may cause this, however I would look for a worn washer as the cause.
get a new nylon or neoprene drain plug gsaket for your plug from the auto parts store. torque your drain plug 15-20 foot pounds, so give it a good final turn. next time you change your oil put the new drain plug seal on. should be changed every 4-6 oil changes.

I don,t know who changed your oil last however always check for leaks whenever you get your oil changed most of the time the drain plug is put back real tight so if you are leaking oil check to make sure it is tight and not cross threaded, good luck

Oh yeah.. That happened to me when I worked at a gas station. I got distracted because we were busy so I quit changing oil and helped pump gas, went back to the car and forgot to tighten the oil plug. The next day the owner wasn't happy about it. so, yeah it can and did happen.

It is possible the hole is slightly worn, and needs a slightly oversized self-tapping replacement plug. It is also possible that the gasket needs replacing.
The plug not being properly torqued may cause this, however I would look for a worn washer as the cause.
get a new nylon or neoprene drain plug gsaket for your plug from the auto parts store. torque your drain plug 15-20 foot pounds, so give it a good final turn. next time you change your oil put the new drain plug seal on. should be changed every 4-6 oil changes.

I don,t know who changed your oil last however always check for leaks whenever you get your oil changed most of the time the drain plug is put back real tight so if you are leaking oil check to make sure it is tight and not cross threaded, good luck
Yes, but most likely the plug itself is bad. You can buy new ones at autozone or your car dealer.

WRX leaking oil from drain plug?
I had a leaking drain plug which was missing the gasket. I replaced it and it is still leaking just a little. What should I do?WRX leaking oil from drain plug?

WHat did you replace the gasket with? If it is not a material rated for oil, it will leak.
Try using a copper crush gasket. These can be obtained at any auto or hardware store.
If this does not work, the threads of the plug or hole may be an issue. Yuu can replace the plug bolt as well.
If none of these provide a solution, the pan may be bent, or the plug hole threads may be damaged. If you do not want to replace your oil pan, you can tap the threads out to a larger plug.

The right way to fix it, would be to tap to the next size plug and replace it with a bolt if you have to. You need to size and buy a cheap tap to cut new threads. You may be able to get a thread chaser and chase it first and see if that takes care of it. Another approach would be to buy some high temp silicone, like a gasket maker and apply it to your threads before reinstalling your plug after oil changes. auto zone sells drain plugs, the kind that makes its own threads, get 1 of those and it will retap its own threads.
I used to own a '93 Honda, where I made friends with the a Honda service manager. I had that same problem. He told me, Honda dealers have a temporary oil pan kit for about $30 bucks. Which I had done. It lasted a while, 'til I gave the car to a friend. But keep in mind, it's a ';temporary'; kit. It's should to last for about six months, 'til you can fix right.
You will need to get an oversize drain pan plug at Auto Zone, it will self tap into the pan, after you install it remove it and use a magnet to feel around the hole just in case any metal particles are there. Its not to likely but better safe than sorry, Good Luck and God Bless

These days, I use plumbers' teflon thread tape exclusively when changing oil. Fits all cars, will not leak, but needs to be properly used. Properly means winding the tape onto the plug in such a direction (clockwise, looking at the inside end of the plug) a sufficient number of times to take up the slack in the thread. I also then wind further turns, allowing the tape to roll itself into a round shape, around the plug against the flange. When you tighten it in, just tighten it hard enough to compress this tape under the flange, and enough it cannot wind itself out (of course). The teflon will actually help to stop this happening.
It could also be you have a crack near the plug in the pan. If replacing the plug/ gasket does not stop oil escaping, look carefully around the fitting in the pan. Cracking can be caused by impact, or by over- tightening the plug. If cracked, it will need replacement or repair by welding (or even soldering?).
Really not much you can do..I had the same problem and just replaced the oil pan

try checking the gasket on the drain plug and replace it if it looks damaged. or you can replace both the drainplug and gasket which costs about 5 dollars. if that doesn't work. theres a chance that you might've crooss threaded the pan and, unfortunately, have to replace the pan.

its a copper ring you can buy them anywhere even a volvo dealer although you should change them you can usually re-use them with no problem, to make sure you can anneal it first.

I changed the oil on my CBR about 300 miles ago. I replaced the crush washer on the drain plug as well. Ever since then there has been a slow leak of oil from the drain plug. No You can get hold of a small pump that you can connect to your drill.You then connect small pvc tube to each side of the pump,one side being small enough to slide down the dip stick pipe and then push it down lower enough to go into the bottom of the sump.
Then start your drill and it will suck out all the oil
what kind of car are you working on. i have been doing that for, well approaching 300, 000 cars and i have never seen a car that did not have a drain plug, a boat sure, bot not a car. you could possibly use a small hose through the dipstick tube to suck it out with a pump like you would on a boat.

But however if you know THIS LITTLE about cars, meaning you cant find the drain plug you better find a Jiffy Lube and fork out the extra cash to watch someone more knowledgable do it.
If you cannot find the drain plug, you should get help to change the oil the first time.
It is best to ';learn'; the correct way. I am sure you have a friend or neighbor that would help you.
There's always drain plug for ENGINE OIL. If you can't find it, you are looking at the wrong place (like on the tranny).
Keep looking, otherwise you will be draining the wrong oil.

the oil pan is deep and rectangular and will have a drain plug. The trans pan is not as deep and allot more p shaped i think you are looking at the trans pan.
Pay attention to sean r and Fitzy they are both correct. You may be better to have this change done by the dealer because the correct tooling might take time aquire.
There's one there somewhere. Usually at the lowest place.
If you still can't find it go to someplace that'll change your and watch them.

i'm trying to change the oil on my '97 saturn sc2, and this is my first time doing it since i bought the car from someone a little while back.
my socket set didn't even go up to the plug's size (highest was 1/2';, the plug is a little bigger, go figure!). i went and bought a wrench, but it was one of the adjustable ones (with the little wheel thing on it to make the wrench wider or smaller). THAT didn't work; the wrench ended up just turning on the plug, even with me twisting as hard as i can lol (and yes, i'm turning it counter-clockwise).
would i be better off just getting some bigger sockets? socket wrench seems like the best one to use....

It's most likely a metric size; any where from 12mm to 15mm. If the plug is stripped, as you dicribed, use a pair of vise grips. When you put the plug back in the oil pan; first, get a new plug, and only tighten it as much as you can using YOU FINGERS ONLY. ( the heat from the engine oil wil cause the plug to expand and the plug will pretty much secure it self. REMEBER: Tighten the plug only hand tight.)
Truth is that if you take it into a local oil change place they can pull the plug and give you a new one. Valvoline does it for free or at least used to but in this case it would cost you the price of the oil change which is about $30.
My husband about killed my dad for using a socket to change the oil on my car. A wrench is what you should use, not an adjustable one. My car takes a 15mm wrench.
it probably takes a metric socket. if you cant get it,use a 6 point socket and a cheater pipe.
Don't use a crescent wrench on any bolt unless you really have to. If you don't tighten it enough, you will round the bolt and they are just a pain to use anyway. Go get a good set of sockets. Most that you buy will last the rest of your life. If the bolt still wont come off try using a breaker bar(get a round tube and put it around the socket handle so you get more leverage) and when you put the plug back in, dont tighten it that tight. You want it tight enough that it wont come out while you are driving but not so tight that you may damage the oil pan or threads.
